The Shaping
The Shaping
Raw materials
Earth, fire, air and water: these are the four fundamental natural elements in the timeless art of ceramics.
We start from the earth and then from kèramos the ancient Greek term that identified the clay used to manually forge the artefacts, which in the case of our Vietrese Ceramics is the red clay, preferably from the province of Salerno.

Fire and air make the clay become solid ceramic, but at the same time they bind the glazes and colors to the product forever in a marriage of elements that return unique works of art.

And finally the water, which since ancient times symbolizes life, is used in ceramic to mix the doughs and dissolve the colors, an element that makes malleable to the hands and art of man what nature originally presents us as hard and not malleable.

Forging
It is the moment when the red clay from a simple mixture of earth and water becomes an artifact. And this is how clay takes shape in the skilled hands of our master potters, through the use of the lathe or with the use of hand molds or presses. After modeling, the product undergoes a natural air drying process to allow a gradual loss of residual moisture and its plasticity is "fixed". After this phase you can proceed with cooking.
The First Cooking
It is time for that shape given to the earth by our Master Ceramists (time of donkey, time of dish or ornamental pot), once dried, pass into the oven at a temperature around 960 °, so that the shapes given remain forever.
But our ceramic, once out of the oven, still in its raw state and still in the color of the earth, still has a long way to go in order to boast the name of real Ceramica di Vietri ... in fact, glazing and skill still await you hand of our Decorators to be painted by hand.

The enamelling
The enamelling, which usually takes place by immersion, covers the object with a white layer which will then serve as a base for decoration. If required, this technique can also be done by airbrushing or by veil.
The particular enamel used is the typical white Vietri enamel with a semitransparent dirty white color which gives the colors used subsequently a brilliance effect, typical of the ancient Vietri production.

Colors
The main colors of our ceramics, handmade with techniques handed down for generations, are reminiscent of southern colors: the blue print, the ultramarine blue, the ancient blue, the yellow of the sun and the lemons of the Amalfi Coast, the yellow of the Vietrese type , ramina green, light green, manganese, orange and carmine red.
The colors used are part of an ancient and severe specification, they are all water based and are all non-toxic, also intended for dishes for food use.

The Decoration
The decoration technique of our Master Decorators on the still raw Vietri white enamel is carried out exclusively by freehand drawing and the subsequent manual application of the colors by brush.
Our creations present decorations that are inspired by the Vietri tradition, but also do not disdain new decorations that propose a careful review of the same.

The Second Cooking
After the enamelling and the decoration we proceed with the second firing in the oven at a temperature of about 900 ° C, to fix the glaze to the object and give the ceramic its typical resistance and brilliance.
The second firing is the slowest, but perhaps also the most delicate, the one where all the mastery, wisdom and experience of the Masters must be realized to give life to unique pieces of Artistic Ceramics, where bright colors come to life, to give emotions that are renewed every time you admire them.

The earth that takes shape in your hands ... a unique emotion that has been handed down for generations.
